Enjoy The Journey

I have a card to share with you that I made for some dear friends of ours that will be heading to Germany at the end of the month for three years. We will miss them a lot but are so excited for them at the same time.

Here is the card:
I used the sketch from Mojo Monday:
I made a few changes to the sketch. I used only two brads instead of three because I only had one red and one blue and I used the arrow for the banner and the last difference was I didn't use diagonal strips. Instead I stamped it along the bottom edge.

I did a bit of distressing and inking of the edges to give the card a vintage feel.

I love the sweet little airplane that was punched out of silver metallic paper for the final embellishment. The arrow is stamped on pattern paper then I cut it out.

I don't know about you but I find myself buying stamps now that have matching dies so I don't have to do any fussy cutting. It sure saves a lot of time.

Thanks for taking a peek. Hope your having a grand weekend!

Happy Wedding Dove

Hello my friends. I just remembered a card I had made last week and forgot to share it with you all. Shame on me!

My son told me he had a coworker getting married and if I could make a wedding card and he needed it by Friday (this was Thursday evening he was asking me). Of course I said yes and went straight away to my craft room.

I had pinned this card from Pinterest to my  board not too long ago:
...and it had been in my head ever since.

Two things caught my eye when I saw this darling card: the Swiss Dot embossing, which is one of my favorite embossing folders and the pretty green color. I also loved how the sentiment was framed by the scalloped borders and thought what a lovely wedding card it would make and now here was my chance to make one with it.

When I had asked my son if he liked the green color scheme he said he had a light blue in mind. So making a few changes this is how my card came out:

Sorry the photos are not that great. I had to do it at night so no natural lighting on this card.

I used pretty silver sparkly paper for the die cut leaves instead of green since I wanted the blue to be the only color and I had to cut a few branches apart to get the placement just right. I exchanged the butterfly for a dove since it seemed more appropriate for a wedding card.
Here you can see how pretty the silver paper is and I sprayed the dove with Dazzling Diamonds Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and added a silver pearl for the doves eye.

I hope you enjoy your day and thanks so much for dropping by!

Galaxy of Stars

Sunday as I was reading some of my favorite blogs  I came to Karen Giron's blog, The Sweetest Thing and her Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge 222 post.

I really liked the sketch....

Then as I was looking at all of the cards created by the Sweet Sunday Stampers I came across this bold and fun creation from Tracy Clemente...

Isn't it such a fun birthday card with all the colors, stars and banner? I was so inspired by Tracy's card that I wanted to make a fun Father's Day card for my dad so I got right to it.

Here is how my card turned out...
It actually turned out very similar to Tracy's. The colors are different and I had to make my banners as all my banner stamps were too large. I used a tiny alphabet stamp set and stamped them with Versa Mark watermark ink onto the cardstock and embossed them with white embossing powder. I then hand cut each letter into a banner and glued them along the stamped line. I then did some pen stitching on each banner to make them look like they were sewed on. I also stamped the red ribbons at each end of the banner and added punched stars and a gold ball to the center of both of the star centers. I also did hand pen stitching along the edge of the circle.

And instead of saying happy birthday I changed the sentiment to Happy Father's Day.
I like how the black background really helps the colors to pop.
My husband came into my craft room/office today and saw the finished card laying on the table and made the comment that it was a pretty cool card. Wow, I think that is the first time he has ever made a comment on one of my cards unless I asked him for his opinion. So he really must have liked it to voluntarily offer his opinion like that.

Check out Karen's card that she made with the sketch and all the other Sweet Sunday Stampers. I promise you will be inspired.

Thanks for dropping by and have a wonderful day!

Fort Flagler

Hello friends and Happy Monday to you all!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. We spent the weekend camping at Fort Flagler with friends.

Fort Flagler is a very old historic military fort that is surrounded on three sides by salt water shoreline and overlooks the Puget Sound, Cascade and Olympic Mountains. It is one of our very favorite places to camp.

You can see Port Townsend from the beach and watch the ferry's go back and forth all day.

We hiked the 21/2 miles to the old bunkers where they had at one time eight big guns but have long since been removed and tried to imagine what it was like when the fort was in use.
It was a perfect day, sunny with a great breeze. We had several kites flying along with a lot of other people so the sky was dotted with colorful kites all Saturday afternoon.

There was also someone that made a stage out of the back deck of his toy hauler and they had people singing all day until early evening.

We also hiked the beach and let the dogs swim in the ocean and the kids played in the sand as we watched a pair of bald eagles high above us in the trees searching the shoreline for food.

We were lucky enough to see a navy ship being escorted by the Coast Guard out to sea.
At night after dinner we sat by the campfire for a few hours then played board games before going to bed.

Camping in such wonderful places is so relaxing. Already looking forward to our next mini camping trip!

What are some of your favorite places to camp at?

At Our Beautiful World the word for the week is Animal. I haven't played with them in months so it is great to be back and able to play along and admire everyone's beautiful photos. Please drop by their lovely blog. I am sure they would love to have you play along with them.
