CPS Card Sketch #279

Hello, I have a birthday card to share with you all today.

It all started when I received my Paper Crafts Sept/Oct issue the other day. Inside the magazine was an advertisement/contest for the new Fuse Creativity System by Fiskars. They included two die cuts for you to use to make a project and enter your project using the die cuts. I really liked the butterfly one and thought it would be great to use for a birthday card.
Then I saw the new CPS sketch and thought I could combine the sketch and die cut into a birthday card. Which I did after changing things up just a bit.
Check out the CPS blog to see what the CPS Designers came up with:

Here is my cheery birthday card:

Since the die-cut was orange and yellow I went with papers from the Citrus matstack from DCWV. They matched perfectly. I had to go with a 6x6 card since the die is just under 4" and was to big for an A2 card. I played around with rectangle elements of the card until I liked the balance but I still wasn't happy with the card. It just looked unfinished. So after rummaging through my embellishements for a bit I added the green rick rack and ran the blue rectangle through the Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dot embossing folder. That seemed to do the trick.
Isn't that a cool die cut! So the Fuse does it all...die-cut, press and letterpress. Pretty cool!
I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment with Memento Tuxedo Black ink
I added some orange gemstones to the butterfly. I decided to add a tiny blue flower above the sentiment. First I tried the flower in the middle, right above the the B in birthday but it just didn't look right so I offset it a bit to the left and that seemed to work much better.

Wishing you all a great week!

Trio of Patriotic Cards

For my first card I used this fun sketch from The Deconstructed Sketch #49:
Go here to see what others have done with this sketch: http://deconstructingjen.com/archives/5846
Here is how I used the sketch:
I used the star embossing folder and misted it with Gold Perfect Pearls instead of the Pearl Perfect Pearls. I've had this corrugated cardboard forever and thought it would add some fun texture. After trimming the ends of the cardboard I inked it with Fired Brick distress ink then layered the rest of the shapes on top. The top mat is die cut from a Spellbinders die and added the gold pearls. The stars are leftover from a project I did a long time ago and were the perfect size.
For the sentiment I used the light blue cardstock and used Watermark VersaMark ink with white embossing powder.
Up next is a card I made from sketch#FTL188 found at Clean and Simple Stamping: http://cleanandsimplestamping.blogspot.com/2012/04/188.html Visit them to see many inspiring projects using this cute sketch.
Here is the sketch:
Cute isn't it?
Now here is the card I created with the sketch:
I am pleased with how this card turned out. It might have to do with the fact it has a bit of glitter. I again used the star embossing folder and gold Perfect Pearls. Stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo ink then I colored it with Red and Clear Glaze Pens.
Can you see how the glaze pens add shine in the photo? They also add just a hint of dimension without the bulk. So fun and easy to use.
Again I used Watermark VersaMark ink to stamp the sentiment then used white embossing powder.
For my third and final card of the day I used this simple sketch #263 from CPS:
See how the sketch was used by visiting here:
http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/  This week CPS is being sponsored by Skipping Stones.
Here is what I created using the sketch:
Once again I embossed the white cardstock with the Cuttlebug star embossing folder but this time I wanted a distressed look so I used the blending tool with Fired Brick distress ink and lightly ran it across the top of the embossed paper. Then I did the same thing with Vintage Photo. I used a distress tool on the edges and then inked the edges with Vintage Photo.
I stamped the image on white cardstock and colored it with Glaze pens. I inked it with Fired Brick and Vintage Photo Distress ink to age it. Then I was in a dilemma. I needed to do something with the two end pieces. They were just sitting there blank. I couldn't think of a thing to do that would look right. I wanted to emboss them but I thought they would look out of place with out the middle block embossed too but I had already adhered the stamped image to the navy cardstock. Finally I decided just to go ahead and emboss all three pieces and hope that the ink from the Glaze pen would not crack when it was embossed.
The ink held up and the image looks really cool embossed. Problem solved! I just rounded the outside corners and was done. I left off any sentiment that way it can be used just as a note card or even for someone whose birthday falls on July 4th.
I am only about two cards short of having 20 patriotic cards to send to From Our Hearts for our troops overseas. I can't believe I have made so many different using pretty much the same supplies and the same colors of cardstock. Although I must admit I am getting a little tired of red, white and blue ;). Thanks to all the great sketches I have used each card is unique and kept my mojo going.
Have a great week!

Three Sketches, Three Cards

I hope everyone isn't getting bored by all the patriotic cards. I think I have about exhausted all of my patriotic stamps but they either have never been used or it has been a long time since they were last used so it feels good to bring them out and use them on cards for a good cause.
In case this is your first visit to  my blog I  am making 4th of July cards for a nonprofit organization called From Our Hearts. They send cards to our troops overseas that they get from card makers all over the US.
So onto my first card. I used a sketch from I Spy Sketch Challenge #12 which was taken from a cute card by Melyssa Connoly. Here is where you can find her card: http://ispysketches.blogspot.com/2012/04/issc12-with-melyssa-connolly.html and here is the sketch:
Here is how I used the sketch:
I made a few changes to the sketch. First I turned it. I  also trimmed the end of the three strips of paper into banners instead of leaving them straight. I also ran a piece of Craft tape down the middle of each strip.
I embossed the background with the star embossing folder which I seem to have used on almost all of  my patriotic cards. I love how gorgeous it turns out every time. I also inked the edges of the card with Fired Brick Distress ink.
Another change was instead of a circle I used a white star embossed shape and layered another star made out of pp on top.
I also flipped the rectangle shape which I embossed and inked the edges with Fired Brick Distress ink. For the sentiment I used Creative Memories stickers and added a row of gold pearls. I also added smaller gold pearls to the center of three of the embossed stars in the background.
Moving onto the next card:
I used the sketch from CPS#262 and here is the sketch:
Go to their blog for inspiration from their design team:
http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/04/cps-262-part-1.html Oh and by the way this week is being sponsored by My Favorite Things.
Here is what I came up using their sketch:
I stayed true to the sketch except I added the sentiment on a banner. I used an eagle stamp as my image which I stamped on kraft cs inked with black ink. I inked the edge of the embossed circle as well as the banner with Fired Brick distress ink. I thought the an eagle was the perfect image to represent America and freedom.
I again added gold pearls to the center of three of the embossed stars.
And now for my third and final card of the day I used the sketch from Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #157:
You should visit Karen's blog and see the cute card she made with this sketch and while your there you should browse her blog as she makes many wonderful cards.
Now here is my last card for this blog post:
I had fun with this sketch. I used the same start embossing folder for the background and some red gingham pp and navy cs for the banners.  I stamped the fireworks image onto more of the navy cs with watermark ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder then used a CM circle punch. The white paper is Neenah White Solar and I stamped it with three different stamps for my sentiment in black ink and adhered it to my card base.
I used an adhesive star gemstone for the big star, colored in the open star with a red Glaze pen and used a clear Glaze pen on the black star.
I have been having so much fun using sketches for my cards. I hope you join in too!
Have a great week.

Celebrate Freedom

For todays card I used a sketch from CPS #261:
Here is the link if you would like to play along:  http://cardpositioningsystems.blogspot.com/2012/04/cps-261-part-1.html
Here is what I created with the sketch:
All the pattern paper and cardstock is from Creative Memories.  The Celebrate Freedom stamp is a dollar stamp that I inked with Watermark VersaMark ink and embossed with white embossing powder an the  blue pattern paper.
I used Trapped Resist technique on the stamped image. I had a scrap of white cardstock leftover that had been stamped with script in brown ink so I stamped my image with the Watermark VersaMark ink right over the brown script and then  embossed it with clear embossing powder. Next I inked the image with Weathered Wood distress ink then die cut and embossed with Spellbinders die and my Cuttlebug. I added gold pearls to the die cut image and I decided the image was not large enough so I added a red mat behind it.
The navy background was also embossed with an embossing folder. I used the Craft Tape at the top of the background cardstock.

Up next is my second card which I used another wonderful sketch from The Deconstructed Sketch #47:
This was a really fun and easy sketch to work with. Here is the link http://deconstructingjen.com/archives/5804  Check it out a play along!
Here is what I came up with:

Again I used the navy blue cardstock and embossed it with stars. I then spritzed it with the Perfect Pearls. I cut it into three equal rectangles and adhered them to an embossed white cardstock and I wrapped a ribbon around the bottom of the card. I thought the ribbon looked bare so I added the three clear gemstones.
I used white cardstock for the sentiment and stamped it in Fired Brick Distress ink. I used red striped Craft Tape along the bottom edge.
For the star I found a another scrap of white cardstock that had been stamped with the Hero Arts envelope stamp. I took that and stamped over it with the star image in Fired Brick Distress ink and cut it out. I then used a CM star punch and navy cardstock to make the star in the middle. After I punched the star I ran it through the Swiss Dot embossing folder and I spritzed it with Perfect Pearls before adhering it to the middle of the larger star.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful week.

Just A Note

Sharing two cards today. First one is inspired from CPS #260:

This was a fun sketch to work with and if you would like to play along here is the link:

Can you believe I didn't use any foam dots or gems. This card is pretty much just paper and one piece of rickrack.
Of course it helps to have cute papers like this Sweet Glitter matstach from DCWV.
Second card of the day:
For this card I used the sketch from this cute Sweet Sunday Sketch # 156 that was designed by Lynn Put:
And her is Lynn's card that the sketch came from:
I love the stitching around the card especially the stitching zigzag stitch at the top. Here is the link:http://kgiron.blogspot.com/2012/04/sweet-sunday-sketch-challenge-156.html

The stamps are just dollar stamps. I colored the tree with green and brown markers then stamped it on white Neenah paper. The die is Mat Stack 3 from PaperTrey Ink. The ribbon and tea dyed lace is from my stash.
The leaf glitter paper is from Matstack Animal Crackers from DCWV. You can see the glitter in the photo above.
The sun is out so I am going to get out there and soak up some vitamin D.
Have a great day.

Caution! Sunglasses Required

Consider yourself warned! This card is a tad on the bright and crazy side. I was definitely outside of my comfort zone on this one but it was fun being challenged.
Ok so here it is:
I warned you it was bright. I used CPS card sketch #259 for the card. I really liked the sketch but found it challenging with all the different backgrounds and the arrow. I decided to turn the sketch one turn to the left.
I have been dying to use the Itty Bitty Matching Socks stamp from Unity Co. that I bought back last Nov. at the CK Scrapbook Convention. When I saw the stamp it reminded me of my daughter when she was little she never cared if her socks matched or not. I finally just gave up and let her wear whatever socks she felt like. To this day she doesn't much care if her socks don't match perfectly.
I paired up the stamp with these 6x6 papers from Studio g. I stamped the socks on two different pattern papers with black ink and cut them out.
Tip: After cutting I ran the black ink pad around the edge to cover any places where I didn't cut close enough to the black edge.
For the socks background I used Sticky Back Canvas and put it in a Sizzix embossing folder and ran it through my Cuttlebug. I love how nicely the canvas holds the embossing. Next I inked it with Spiced Marmalade and an inking tool. The raised part of the embossing comes out darker. I backed the canvas with a black mat and attached mini clothespins to each sock and adhered the socks to the background with foam dots. I also used a bit of glue on the backs of the clothespins.
The next challenge was to figure out which pattern papers to use for the different backgrounds and figure out the measurements. My card is 61/2" square. A size which I rarely use. Once I had the backgrounds made and adhered to the card it was time to decide where I could fit in the sentiment and arrow.
I thought about using a flourish instead of an arrow but decide a flourish would be too busy and the arrow was a little more of a simple shape and besides I wanted to use this template:
...which I've had for years and it's never been used. It worked perfectly. I traced the arrow with a black marker and cut it out then ran a black ink pad around the edges to cover the edges. For the sentiment I simply stamped it with Versa Mark ink onto black cardstock and embossed it with white embossing powder. I adhered the sentiment to the card with foam dots and I adhered the arrow with foam dots also and overlapped it just a tad on the sentiment.
I can't wait to send this card to my daughter who is at college. I know it will make her day!
Thanks for visiting and have a great week!
